Just yesterday I went to a go-see at John Casablancas Modeling and Career Centers and was told that I would receive a call-back today between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Derrick, who is in charge or recruiting talent, called me promptly around 12 p.m. and told me that he would like to meet with me today around 4:00.

When I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment, I was professionally and promptly greeted by Derrick. He spoke with me one on one and explained the ins and outs of the company, what they were about, what kind of modeling he thought would be suitable for me, etc.

I was NOT asked to sign any type of contract yet, pay ANY type of up front fees such as "handling fees", "signing fees", "agency fees", or any other type of fee. I asked if I would be asked in the future to pay for any other type of fee, as I have been scammed before and I know that there are not supposed to be any type of up front fees that you pay for modeling. He told me that there would be NO type of fees that I would have to pay at ANY time there at John Casablancas.

However, he told me that I was perfect for print/commercial modeling and that he would like to send me to a photo shoot. He explained that I would need to pay a $150 photographer's fee to hold my place at the studio where I will have my shots done.

He also explained that once I get to the studio, I will have to pay $300 for my test shots. The reason that these shots are so pricey, you have to understand, is because they have to take photos of you in 4 different outfits/"looks". There is a makeup artist AND a hair designer on board as well. This means that just this shoot could quite possibly take ALL DAY LONG, as for every different "look" they have to change your hair and makeup.

So far, I am very pleased with the people at John Casablancas. They are all very professional, very friendly and very supportive.

However, I am not naive. I will continue to pay close attention to everything going on around me and read any and every contract word for word just to make sure I'm not getting the run-around. I will make sure to keep those of you in question updated on my "take" on how John Casablancas is handling their models and actors. But for now, know that I am quite pleased with what I have heard and seen.

so how did it work out for you after the photo shoot? it's been 17 years.

did you ever sign a contract and take classes? did they help you find jobs?

Guest

I totally agree with this person. I was never asked to sign or pay any money.

I had my interview today and it was very informational they made it very clear that I did not have to take their classes and that if I took another class they would definitely help find me an agency.

I was never pressured into anything. I highly recommend it.

I received a call from a young female by the Name of Dominique. She explained to me that she was from JC Modeling and they were intrested in my daughter.

I asked her about fees, She replied that I don't have to pay any fees. She told me to just bring her to the Photo Shoot, The Walk Way, And Pictures. Now I took her to A shoot with One Source Talent before and yea they did ask for money up front, So I agree if you want me why do I have to pay you. Now yea if she's picked and offered a spot or something than I would pay for her photo shoot.

So she is scheduled to go on Wednesday so if it's a scam it would definitely be known. I'm A fed Employee so I will be on my grind!

Im signed with one source talent, and they scheduled me a photoshoot with JR, I paid 600$ but it wasn't a job, it was to make my portfolio, yesterday the john casablancas company called and wants to meet in chattanooga, im not sure if they found me through the company I'm signed with or JR's photography, Im really worried about weather theyre a scam, some people say they are and other say they're not, I'm just going to go along with it and see what happens but I'm not paying any more money, there's no reason I should, I don't believe I have to take these classes either

I am signed with John Casablanca's & have been with them for some years as well as several other agencies. I have never in my life paid for any agency to represent me & that's where alot of people that don't know much about the business don't know.

The only thing I have every did was pay for my 1st shoot with John Casablanca's & that was my very 1st & last time I ever paid for a shoot. If any company or agency want you to work for them you shouldn't have to pay any company to work for them. Listen to Tyra Banks she tells it all the time that if any company wants you to represent them you don't have to pay them at all. Alot of the comments its the same as paying for your child to go to school.

There's a difference if you are paying for modeling classes true yes you may have to pay but for anyone telling you they want to sign you no I don't agree with that. I have never paid for any modeling classes with them or nay other company. I strongly believe if you want me to represent you I'm not paying you to make me & you money in the long run.

I do strongly believe in investing in yourself but paying a company no. If you do your research 1st you want have to worry about anyone trying to scam you.

I have a few problems with your post. #1 - WHY ARE YOU TYPING IN CAPS?

Educated people know that you don't do that on a public forum, as it is considered RUDE. #2 - How can you seriously compare attending a university of higher education with paying a talent/modeling agency that accepts everyone? In all universities they have a thing called "Admissions" and you are "Required" to have specific academic abilities and performance before being "Admitted". I can guarantee you it is not required you hold any specific skills prior to "Paying" an agency to "Teach" you how the business works.

See, there IS a difference. #3 - What is boils down to is that there are places that do not handle business the right way and need to be called out on it.

Don't bad mouth parents that are trying to help their children achieve their dreams, they have been doing it for THOUSANDS, yes, 1,000's of years. And yes, definitely, GOD BLESS.

Sounds like you either work for the company or they have completely brain-washed you

:eek :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek :eek 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) Im Grown, and NOBODY Brainwashed me.Nobody can make you do anything.Like I said Everyone has to start somewhere.Until then your just another face.No Agency ,or school is going to let you ride FREE so stop teaching your kids then things in life should be free!!! Even football players have to train....Mom or Dad had to pay for the uniforms all the the things that were required to get them where the PRO BALL players are TODAY...so get over it got too the BBB they dont lie they uphold a A+ Rating for the last 18 years. You cant Judge ATLANTA JC by what took place at other locations ,or OTHER DIRECTORS IN THE PAST!!!!

EVERY JC is FRANCHISED so just like if you walk into a waffle house in SW Atlanta verses Daytona Beach Florida or Buckhead then you may see a huge difference .So again STOP assuming that all are ran the same.Dont get me wrong they ALL should be running it 100% Honestly, but in life there will always b the bad ,and greedy.ust know that JC ATLANTA isnt operated like that. They dont discriminate they CANT and all sizes shapes races are needed in the industry dont you watch TV??? Im done..GOD BLESS :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :upset :upset :upset :upset :upset :upset :upset :upset

John Casablancas is well known for being a MODELING SCHOOL what do you expect, nothing is free. I don't understand what everyone is complaining about.

I don't work with the school or promote for them- And I loved it...I got jobs while I was at the school and for the future....

The Agency is MTM- you can be offered that after the classes- it is YOUR choice to pay money for classes, just because its your daughter-neice-grand daughter- doesn't mean they are americas next top model. Be realistic.....MicheleMarie

I worked with them as well but I never had to pay for any modeling, runway or acting classes I was just signed & they helped me make money. That's what an agency do.

Yes there was several females they asked to pay for classes when I was signed but I was just signed.

I was already experience & when you know the business you wouldn't pay to work for anyone. Classes are different but I didn't have to pay.
